Tha Good Good, Week of 9.27.20

  • article — Chuck Feeney, 89, has been dubbed "the James Bond of philanthropy." Since founding Duty Free Shoppers in 1960 (yes, that Duty Free Shoppers where you bide time while your flight out of JFK is delayed yet again), he has accumulated quite the fortune for himself. What has he done with his money? Given it all away. Feeney pioneered the idea of Giving While Living. Practicing his preachings, he has donated more than $8 billion to charities, universities, and foundations over the last four decades. Total legend.

  • yoga — We could all benefit from a tad more mindfulness and meditation these days. Julia Lehrman, a gifted therapist, yoga instructor, and friend, has given me just that. Every Tuesday evening at 6 PST and Friday at noon, she teaches donation-based yoga via Zoom that's great for all levels. Oh, and each class is taught to house music that BUMPSFlow with us.

  • kitchen tool — Thanks to Steph for introducing me to these salad scissors while we were watching basketball last week. As someone who once invested in a crepe maker, I am very hesitant to spend money on stupid kitchen gadgets that will never get used. But these really are game changers. Dare I say, you just might look forward to your next salad.

  • book— Dan Millman's Way of the Peaceful Warrior

"If you don't get what you want, you suffer; if you get what you don't want, you suffer; even when you get exactly what you want, you still suffer because you can't hold on to it forever. Your mind is your predicament. It wants to be free of change, free of pain, free of the obligations of life and death. But change is a law, and no amount of pretending will alter that reality [...] Life is not suffering; it's just that you will suffer it, rather than enjoy it, until you let go of your mind's attachments and just go for the ride freely, no matter what happens."

  • show — Oh how I love me a remake done right. Fargo is what happens when a Coen brothers classic meets perfect present-day casting. Good jokes, bad men, and a whole lotta Minnesota accents await you.

  • moment of zen — Local San Francisco artist Abby Anderson (@honest_abigail) pays tribute to a feminist icon by reminding us all to vote like our lives depend on it (because they do) #RIPRBG
