Tha Good Good, Week of 1.19.2019
1. A podcast I enjoyed: Dax Shepard's interview with Amy Schumer on Armchair Expert
Listen to Amy as she and Dax chat in her living room about feeling comfortable in your own skin, the story behind how she and her husband met, and how hard it is to be a productive human being the morning after boozing. It's a great balance of laughter and getting real. Listen here.
2. A documentary worth watching: 13th, a film by Ava DuVernay
Named after the constitutional amendment that abolished slavery, 13th is an eye-opening exploration of American racism and mass incarceration. I had no idea that the U.S. prison population leapt from about 500,000 in 1980 to over 2.2 million in 2015, or that about one in three of those incarcerated are African American. We have a duty to educate ourselves on what's happening in the criminal justice system and ways wecan bring about change. Learn more here.
3. A quote I'm thinking about:
“When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.” ― Mark Twain
My grandma sent me this quote the other day. It's a nice reminder to stay humble and stop thinking you know everything.
