EATS: How to Ace a Trip to the Farmer's Market

I love me a good farmers market. You're getting higher quality food, supporting local (often small-scale) farmers, and experiencing an uplifting community feel every time you go. Anytime I buy tomatoes from New York's Union Square Greenmarket or strawberries from Gainesville's Union Street Market, my friends have the same eye-popping reactions upon biting in. This week, find a market near you and explore.

Pro Tips:

- Bring cash. Many vendors these days accept credit cards, but keep cash on hand to play it safe and to avoid overspending.
- Taste, taste, taste. Most sellers provide samples or happily serve em if asked. Last week I tasted a fig dip and haven't stopped talking about my newfound #figpreciation.
- Get curious! Ask about pesticide use, how to store the product, and tips for cooking. As they say, "Know your farmer, know your food."
- Early bird gets the kimchi. If you want the freshest food or you're afraid of something selling out, get to the market close to start time.
